Copyright (C) 2008A series of Italian wildflower wall art devoted to revealing the intricate, rare and delicate beauty of the Italian wildflowers of the Tuscan Countryside.
All these images are shot in the grounds of Palazzo Cervini, a beautiful, peaceful, renaissance palace set in the heart of Southern Tuscany near Montalcino.
This palace was commissioned by Pope Marcello II and was built by Antonio da Sangallo ,the famous Vatican architect that built the Pope's living quarters. The present Count and Countess (descendants of The Pope Marcello II) are still in residence today.
A Romanesque chapel and an extensive hermitage (Eremo) were also constructed to accommodate for a fascinating group of humble monks, known as the "Camaldolesi", who first inhabited the caves that now form the foundations of the castle in 1,004 ad (500 years previously). This hermitage exists today, a place for peaceful contemplation and where one can truly be at one with nature and it's beauty.

Taking A Bow is another in my series of desaturated orchids. The absolute majesty of the orchid in all it's rich texture and color is untouched and jumps out of the neutral, desaturated background. The effect is fantastic and lends itself quite well in a series of images.

Cherry Burst
Cherry Burst is one of those images that began as a simple photograph of a Cherry Blossom that just begged to stand out from the crowd. Both “Cherry Burst” and her sister image, “Solitaire” were captured when the D.C. Cherry blossoms were in full bloom.
Both of these artistic renditions are enhanced photographs that preserved the beauty nature intended while I explored a degree of artistic license to enhance their general surroundings. I think the final image retained the natural beauty of this delicate blossom as I explored my impression of the world in which it was captured.
Chilton Under Glass
Chilton Under Glass is a shot of an orchid that I took some liberties with to highlight the intricate striations in the pedals and colors. I started to view this flower as if it was in a crystal globe and wondered how that would look. This is what I imagined in my minds eye. How about you? How would this flower have appeared in your imagination?
White Rose
White Rose is a natural beauty I captured in a Washington, DC church yard on an unseasonably warm Thanksgiving day.
The only alterations I have done on this image were cropping and very slight adjustments of white balance and contrasts.
I hope you enjoy this natural work of beauty as much as I do.

Brother Paul Valentine
“Brother Paul Valentine” is actually the name for this particular flower. I shot this image in the National Botanical Gardens in Washington, DC. They have an amazing orchid room with lots of natural light. The only liberties I took with this shot, as with all my flower shots is to reduce the background saturation and crop the image. This is the same work I learned to do in the darkroom way back when. I hope you enjoy this wonderful piece of art. It really is breath taking.
Blossoms in Love
Blossoms in Love is a really nice, simple and delicate image I took at the National Botanical Gardens. Orchids are my favorite flower and you will see a growing number of them here. However this shot of a Cyclamen was one that I couldn't pass up. I hope you enjoy it none the less. This full color shot was enhanced in post production to remove the background, but the delicate pedals of the flowers were left untouched, note how the black is filtered through the wasp thin pedals.

“Peaches and Cream” is another in the series of natural beauties. This shot was also taken in the National Botanical Gardens and had only the slightest of enhancement, limited entirely to reducing the background saturation and cropping. The shot was taken without a flash and in the natural light afforded by the greenhouse in which I found this specimen. I hope you enjoy exploring the intricate lines and features of this flower, it truly is a beauty.

Pink Orchid
Pink Orchid is one of a series I hope to complete soon. This image will balance the absolute and unaltered beauty of nature in a brilliant wash of color offset by a desaturated background. The result is almost shocking as the flower just jumps out of the frame to command your attention. Nature and flowers are two of my favorite muses, I hope these evoke that same sense of awe and inspiration for you as they do for me.
Different Drummers
Different Drummers is one of those shots that just begged to be taken. Though in the original shot, the single red standout was closer in color to those surrounding him; he stood taller and was just off shade enough to really get my attention. I took a little liberty and brought out the real personality that was hidden just underneath the surface.
The statement is obvious in that we all like to think of ourselves as being just a little off, but are more often too scared to let ourselves be who we are. As such we clothe ourselves the same and try to blend. I hope you enjoy this fun little quirky shot.
Yellow and Gray
Yellow Reveal is another in a series I hope to complete soon. This image will balance the absolute and unaltered beauty of nature in a brilliant wash of color offset by a desaturated background. Unlike some others, the colors of this amazing flower are very subtle and grow gradually in vibrant contrast as you study the image. The longer you admire this piece, the more depth and detail will be revealed. Nature and flowers are two of my favorite muses; I hope these evoke that same sense of awe and inspiration for you as they do for me.
Table Rose
Table Rose is very much a traditional image. Other than a little cropping this image is untouched leaving the depth and the beauty as nature provided.
Shooting flowers has always held a certain wonder for me. The raw beauty even with the minor flaws that show as they age and bloom can be as intoxicating as the delicate smells they give to lure us into their world.
I hope you enjoy this image, the offset of the warm wood with the coarse grains adds a depth to this image that accents the bud perfectly.

Pink Cyclamen
In working with desaturated photos, I have really come to like the affect. The ability to make the principle focus of a photo stand out without significant enhancement really sets these off. The only enhancement made here is in reducing the background color saturation without altogether eliminating it. The effect is captivating and really makes this Cyclamen pop. I hope you enjoy this and all my other images.
Orang Lily
Orange Lily is an amazing image that just jumps out and holds your gaze. The rich, deep contrasting burnishing of the colors really set this off. The only enhancements done to this shot was to crop it down and slightly reduce the saturation of color behind the main flower. This picture is very much as it appeared to me and I am very happy that I was able to capture it in such a natural setting. I hope you enjoy this shot as much as I do, it is truely one of my favorites.
Orchids on Parade
Orchids are my absolute favorite flower for photography. They come in an endless range of color and variation that you will almost never see any two exactly he same. This image is one I have captured in a number of botanical gardens that I have sought out in an effort to display the range of this delicate flower. I hope you enjoy these as much as I do, though the pictures are great, even by my standard they can’t compare to the real thing.
Moms White Orchid
Mom's White Orchid is one of two pieces I produced for mothers day. I shot these two pieces at the Botanical Gardnes in Washington, DC. This and it's sibbling, Mom's Pink Orchid are a great combination of colors that will set off any room in which they are displayed. These are amazing as large framed prints and the detail with the water droplets are just captivating.
Pink Paradise
Pink Paradise is a natural shot that involved only cropping. Very little manipulation meant you see what nature intended. I love the subtle contrasts of this flower as it displays itself with a majestic beauty as nature intended.
